Reusable pads for Uganda’s girls and women
Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, is a landlocked country in East Africa. In Uganda, many people live below the poverty line and a high percentage of HIV/AIDS infections contribute to the impoverishment of the country.
Through the Skills for Life project, Okoa Hero’s Child Ministries passionately cares for these women, in addition to sponsoring abandoned children. We believe that women and children are the country’s most valuable resource. Women in Uganda bear the heavy burden of war, poverty and disease. Many mothers are single parents and struggle to raise their own children or send them to school because they lack the financial resources. The danger is great that these children will leave home and live on the streets.
Although the Ugandan government has made a good attempt to achieve EFA (Education for All) by introducing universal primary and secondary education, there are many children who do not have the opportunity to go to school. Many become street children and orphans with no hope for a bright future.
Skills for life help to escape poverty
Okoa Hero’s Child Ministries has developed the idea of a training center to create a platform that promotes and strengthens self-reliance and social inclusion. Together we want to change that by providing business training and various employment opportunities. The women will be encouraged to take care of the people in their community and pass on what they have learned to help other women develop their own professional skills. By embracing these women unconditionally with the love of God, they find hope and meaning in their lives.
We are proud of these women who are becoming leaders in their neighborhoods and helping other women on their journey in learning a skill such as tailoring, growing plants, or sustainable agriculture and educate them.
Owning a simple sewing machine alone can help fund a sustainable livelihood. It can be used to make hygiene pads, school clothes or even smaller items such as bags. Help us empower women as they develop new life skills to provide for their families themselves. This will allow them to reach their full potential and positively impact their entire family. This will lead to the emergence of strong mothers in the community who can truly take care of their children, reducing the high percentage of children who leave home for the streets.
Women and children are the most valuable resource in the country, help us to support them in their goals. Donating or sponsoring an education can go a long way.

We accompany and support women in our neighborhood who are looking for help and work with them to find a practical and sustainable solution that will enable them to earn their own living.
