Okoa Hero’s Child Ministries

Our story begins in 2021 with a family in the village of Kasoslo in the Bulamagi sub-county, Iganga/Uganda. Here, 28 children live with their grandmother under difficult in a dilapidated house and struggle daily through life. Hissa Bakachi, their grandfather, who took care of the children for many years, died unexpectedly in the spring 2022.

Teven Kibumba, head of the HFCA Foundation in Iganga, and Micha Koch, then head of an NGO in Germany, visited the Bakachis during a humanitarian trip. Both felt inspired to help the children. In July 2022, Okoa Hero’s Child Ministries, based in Iganga/Uganda, was registered together. It is one of many steps to get the certification as a non-profit organization. Recognition as a charitable foundation has been applied for, which takes its own time.

In doing so, Okoa Hero’s Child Ministries extends its assistance to the entire community in the Busoga sub-county to help other women and families with children in Kasoslo village find their way to a sustainable future. Through the community, cohesion is strengthened. An essential tool for this is education and helping people to help themselves. Small projects such as the distribution of washable sanitary towels, basic foodstuffs such as rice and beans, or the procurement of school materials are also close to our hearts and are gratefully accepted.

Jobs for women is especially important for community transformation. Research shows that women will spend up to 90% of their income on health, nutrition, and education for their families

It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving

– Mother Theresa

Our work is independent of religion or ideology. We give the children biblical values so that they can live their lives with God in a self-responsible way, feel safe with Jesus, and in turn train God-fearing people for future generations.

Every donation and every sponsorship amount reaches the project in question 100% – without deduction of administrative costs.

A sponsorship is integrated into a local development aid project. As a sponsor, you are not only supporting a specific child, but the whole project at the same time.

Teven Kibumba, head of the HFCA organisation in Iganga, and Micha Koch, then head of an NGO in Germany, got to know the Bakachi’s during a humanitarian trip in 2021. Both felt inspired to help the 28 children and founded the NGO Okoa Hero’s Child Ministries in Uganda for this purpose.

With the help of the grandmother, we are taking care of these children, helping them so that they can have a better future. Most of the children were left to their grandparents by their parents out of necessity. They could no longer take care of the children.

Their vision is to renovate their own existing house and property and to create a place to ensure the basic requirements for education, health and nutrition so that the children can grow up sheltered, develop freely and overcome their poverty.

In doing so, extend your help to the entire community in Busoga sub-county to give new hope to other families with children.

With no other form of donation than a child sponsorship do you experience so concretely how and where your help has an effect. One of the greatest advantages of sponsorship is the relationship that you can establish with the child you are supporting through letter contact. A visit at a later date is also possible by arrangement.
